Description

This mixed media artwork, Monkey King, draws inspiration from Andy Warhol and his iconic pop art portraits, reinterpreted through a bold animal subject. Using oil paint, gold leaf, and paper text clippings, the composition combines vibrant color with layered texture to create a dynamic surface. A reference to The Rolling Stones appears through the phrase “It’s only rock’n’roll, but I like it!”, adding a subtle cultural and rebellious tone. The work explores themes of individuality, nonconformity, and the connection between popular culture and visual art. It reflects a contemporary approach to pop art, blending traditional techniques with experimental materials. This artwork was exhibited at ARTBOXEXPO Basel (EuroAirport Basel, 2003) and World Art Dubai 2025.
