About the artists
Ziqi Yu (Fanfu)
I am Ziqi Yu, born in Lingnan and raised in the U.S., where two contrasting cultures shaped my creative journey. I graduated from Pasadena ArtCenter with dual degrees in Graphic Design and Environmental Art, grounded in the belief that “to create is to influence change.” My career began in North America at 4A design firms Sapient and Magnet, followed by a Creative Director role at MarchFIRST, where I led branding efforts for Verizon, Nissan, and Infiniti. These experiences taught me that design’s power lies not just in problem-solving, but in evoking emotion and catalyzing change. After 25 years bridging the design worlds of China and the U.S., I returned to China, focusing on revitalizing local brands amidst globalizations. I founded WinnerBranding Consultancy to help Chinese businesses infuse creativity, cultural depth, and emotional resonance, empowering them to compete globally. Parallel to my design work, art has been an inseparable part of my life. Over the past decade, I’ve explored digital art, creating series like Stargazing, Dandelions in the Wind, Across Time and Space, and Into the Depths of the Void. These pieces blend Eastern negative space with modern imagination, offering a freer expression of emotion. To further unite art and commerce, I founded TAYGETA Gallery, a space where art connects with the human spirit and commerce taps into emotion. The gallery’s name, inspired by the ancient Greek Pleiades constellation, symbolizes spirituality and guidance. Through art, I aim to help individuals find peace amidst the noise of modern life. In both design and art, I see a convergence of emotion, value, and connection. My work is a bridge, using creativity to bring softness and possibility to an increasingly complex world.
Hu Xin
Hu Xin is a member of the Beijing Artists Association, Beijing Oil Painting Society, the Chinese Oriental Culture Research Association, and a judge for the Chinese Art Research Institute. As a nationally recognised Grade One Artist, he bridges the realms of tradition and modernity, East and West. Born in 1963 into a family of calligraphers and painters in Beijing, he began his artistic journey early, honing his skills under the influence of his family’s artistic legacy. Over the years, his art has evolved into a unique blend of cultural dialogue and personal expression. Artistic Journey: From Beijing to Japan and Beyond In 1989, Hu Xin embarked on a transformative chapter, studying in Japan at Akita University’s Department of Fine Arts, followed by postgraduate studies. Under the tutelage of renowned Japanese oil painter Sasaki Ryozo, he refined his technical and conceptual approach. Returning to China in 1999, he furthered his studies at the Central Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Professor Cao Li, immersing himself in the depth of Chinese oil painting traditions. Exhibitions and Accolades: A Global Artistic Presence From 1992 to 1996, Hu Xin consistently earned recognition at prominent exhibitions in Japan, such as the Akita City Art Exhibition and the Tokyo Wangxuan Art Exhibition, receiving awards including the Newcomer Prize and Effort Prize. Back in China, his work gained prominence through participation in events like the China International Art Expo, the Modern Art Fair in France, and exhibitions celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the return of Macau. In 2008, his piece Dreamscape was selected for the Olympic Fine Arts Conference and subsequently added to the Olympic Organising Committee’s collection. A Commitment to Society and Cross-Cultural Dialogue Hu Xin’s art extends beyond personal expression to embrace social and cultural responsibilities. In 2002, he illustrated the poetry collection er, um by American poet Garrett Caples. Following the Sichuan earthquake, he contributed The Flute Player to a charity auction organised by the China Cultural Relics Protection Foundation. He has also held numerous solo exhibitions at Beijing’s Dezhi Gallery and participated in group exhibitions, including the Sino-German Joint Art Exhibition and the Hong Kong Asia Contemporary Art Show, promoting dialogue between Chinese and international artists. Artistic Style: The Fusion of East and West Hu Xin’s work is rooted in realism, infused with the poetic spirit of Eastern aesthetics and the techniques of Western oil painting. His art explores the balance between tradition and modernity, presenting themes that reflect the interplay of nature, humanity, and contemporary life. His portrayals of women and portraits are particularly celebrated for their elegance and dreamlike qualities, embodying a subtle yet profound sense of beauty. Today, as an independent artist, Hu Xin continues to push boundaries and innovate. For him, art is no longer merely a profession; it has become a universal language—an expressive medium to capture the memories of an era and convey the emotions of the human experience. Through his canvases, he invites the world into a dialogue of reflection, culture, and creativity.
